I love BECCA highlighters and I’m always waiting for the brand to release new ones so I can try them! The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst is their latest limited-edition shade and I couldn’t wait to check it out. Prismatic Amethyst is the newest shade in a sea of unusually colored highlighters that have been popping up recently. This is described as a lavender duo-chrome with a holographic effect to it. Initially I was unsure if this highlighter would work for me as I’m pretty warm-toned and this looked really cool and light but once I tried it on at the store, I had to have it. It’s so pretty and a lot more subtle than I was expecting.
The packaging for the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst is just as pretty as the highlighter itself. BECCA always does a great job with their limited-edition packaging and this is easily my favorite so far. The box is a gorgeous holographic pink-purple shade and it’s almost so pretty that I don’t want to throw it away!
The highlighter case is also special. Instead of the usual silver and matte dark brown case, this one is a fun silver and metallic lilac. The compact has a nice weight to it and has a sturdy snap closure. The inside of the lid houses a mirror big enough to be useful. These highlighters contain plenty of product so even if you love a shade it will take you a long time to go through it all.
The powder also has a special faceted shape that is unique to BECCA’s limited edition highlighters. The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst is a really pretty lilac shade that contains gold, violet, and rose pearls to create a holographic effect. The duo-chrome isn’t super obvious in the pan but the color does seem to change based on the lighting. Initially I thought it seemed like a grayish purple but it some lights it looks like a really pale pink.
I wasn’t sure if this shade would work for me but it sounded so unique and fun that I had to go check it out as soon as it hit stores. I’ve heard it’s not available at regular Sephora stores yet but I found it at my Sephora Inside JC Penney. Even looking at it in store I wasn’t really sold on it. It looked very chalky and light but I’m so glad I tried it on just to be sure. This is so pretty and it’s not nearly as light as it looks in the pan. The powder is finely milled and blends in well without looking powdery or glittery.
Even though this is a cool highlighter and I’m fairly warm, the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst works really well for me. Instead of a golden glow like I get with BECCA’s other colors, I get more of a neutral glow with this that helps balance out the yellow in my complexion and make my skin look brighter and less dull. I love layering this over pink blush- it adds a great glow and the colors look so pretty together. This has a beautiful, subtle iridescent shift and it leans more pink than purple on me. It’s a really nice finish and it’s easy to build up for more color or shine.
Prismatic Amethyst is so different from the other BECCA powder highlighter colors that I own and I’m so glad I decided to try it out. It’s much cooler and lighter than the other shades, although it did seem a little darker than Pearl when I checked it out in the store. Moonstone (review here) is darker and more golden and although sometimes I consider Moonstone too light I still think Prismatic Amethyst is wearable for me. Champagne Pop (which is probably my favorite Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed shade) is a lot warmer and more of a peachy color. Opal (review here) is darker and more neutral.
Even though I really like the warmer, more golden shades, I still like the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst. It’s not nearly as noticeable and over-the-top as I would have expected based on swatching it and I love the iridescent pink finish and how it brightens my look.
I’m so happy I bought the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst. It’s quite a bit different than the other highlighters I own but I love the color and the iridescent finish. The lilac shade looks beautiful layered over blushes and the powder melts into skin and looks so pretty. I missed out on BECCA’s last limited edition shade, Rose Quartz, but this is an even better alternative and the pastel shade is right on trend. I love how the purple brightens up my skin. This was a great color to add to my collection and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something new and fun to try!
Do you like the pastel highlighter trend?
