DIY Advent Calendar + A Free Printable

DIY Advent CalendarI know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet but we are so ready for Christmas! We’ve started to pull out a few of our Christmas decorations (too soon?) and this year I’m adding this super easy DIY advent calendar to the mix. I wanted to post about it early so you had time to order the supplies if you wanted to make one for your home. Growing up, Stacie and I had candy cane Christmas advent calendars that hung from our mantle. Basically, every day in December we got to eat a candy cane. I have to be honest, I don’t even really like peppermint but it was always fun to see them disappear from the calendar as Christmas got closer and closer! G is a HUGE fan of Christmas (I mean, singing Christmas songs in July, that kind of superfan) so I thought it would be fun for us to be able to open a small gift each day and countdown the days until Christmas.

DIY Curtains and Bedroom Redo

diy curtainsIt’s been a little while since I’ve posted about my apartment decorating, but I’ve been busy. Last time I wrote about my DIY headboard redo and this time I’m making DIY curtains. I have to be honest, I think curtains can make a big impact in how a room looks but I just don’t find them very exciting. When we moved in, we bought the cheapest blackout curtains in a non-offensive color that we could find. Now that I’m actually taking the time to redecorate, our tan curtains that are stapled to the wall don’t really fit in. Plus, for being blackout curtains, they let a lot of light in (although the sun is pretty bright here).

DIY Headboard Redo

Headboard Before

I’ve been doing a lot of decorating around our apartment and lately my focus has been with our bedroom. Since we rent, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on furniture that might be the wrong size for our next place. Plus, I don’t want to have to move a bunch of heavy pieces! Instead, I’ve been focusing on sprucing up what we already have and redoing versatile pieces that will work in any space. I have a pretty good idea of how I want our home to look, at least color-wise (lots of gray and white with pops of color and metallic accents) so I’ve been trying to take what we already have and alter it to fit that aesthetic. One of my latest projects involved an easy diy headboard.

DIY Gold Dot Glasses

diy_gold_dot_glasses11I’ve been lusting after these Kate Spade Pearl Place Crystal Highball Glasses but the price and the fact that they need to be hand washed has kept me from purchasing them (even the plastic version is still more than I want to spend, and they have to be washed by hand too). It’s not that I’m against owning pieces that need to be hand washed, but it’s just so much more convenient to throw everything in the dishwasher. I was trying to talk myself into finally just buying them when I decided to see if I could make a diy version instead.

Dresser Redo and a DIY Glitter Tray

my dresser before

my dresser before

Since we live in an apartment, there’s not a lot of storage space. Things tend to pile up everywhere if we’re not careful, and one of the worst offenders has always been our dresser. Admittedly, the mess is all mine (G uses one of the drawers but considers the rest of it my territory) so it was up to me to figure out what to do. My biggest problem was a lack of organization. It’s too easy to let magazines and paperwork pile up and as much as I try to keep all of my fancy jewelry in their respective boxes, the pieces I wear everyday usually get dropped on the dresser at the end of the night.
