I love a good lipstick and while I own quite a few drugstore formulas, it’s fun to add a high-end brand to my collection every now and then. Givenchy is one of those makeup brands that I don’t hear much about but their products seem super luxe and the packaging is always beautiful. Sephora released a Givenchy Le Rouge-A-Porter mini lipstick as one of their 100-point perks this month and I decided to try it out.
Even though I only received a deluxe sample of the lipstick, it arrived in a nice little black box with bright pink lettering on the outside. The mini lipstick was even wrapped in special Givenchy Le Rouge-A-Porter tissue paper. What a great presentation for a deluxe sample!
The full-size lipsticks come in a black leather case but this mini one was made from plastic. I guess I can’t really expect leather for a sample but it would have been fun to get. The packaging was still super pretty and this lipstick was fun to open.
The color of the sample is 201 Rose Aristocrate. This lipstick looks really tiny but at 0.03 oz, it’s almost half of the regular size. I’m not sure if there’s a lot of product farther down in the tube or if what you see is it, but it looks much smaller than most mini lipsticks.
I made the mistake of thinking this mini was one of Givenchy’s Le Rouge lipsticks, so I was a little disappointed when I initially swatched it. Le Rouge is a full-coverage, semi matte lipstick while Le Rouge-A-Porter is a sheer balm lipstick. It’s a fairly new formula so that explains why I hadn’t heard of it before. Now that I know this is a sheer lipstick, I’m much happier with the formula. 201 Rose Aristocrate is a pretty peachy-pink shade that can be worn very sheer or built up a little more.
201 Rose Aristocrate is just slightly darker than my lip color so this is a great MLBB color for me but it will probably be too light to really show up on most people. This is designed to be a hydrating, balm-like lipstick. I didn’t really notice any extra hydration but my lips didn’t feel dried out either. This is a sheer lipstick and combined with the lighter color it was hard to get it to show up on my lips. Maybe some of the darker colors would show up more easily. It wasn’t heavy on my lips even though I applied quite a few layers but it only lasted a couple of hours on me. I have to admit, I wasn’t super impressed by this lipstick but it wasn’t bad. The color is pretty although it’s not too exciting and the formula felt fine on my lips but it didn’t really “wow” me. I probably would not buy a full-size of this but I’m happy I got the sample and I wouldn’t rule out other Givenchy products in the future. The Sephora 100-point perk is currently out of stock but you can stalk it here or see if your local store still has it. The full-size Givenchy Le Rouge-A-Porter in 201 Rose Aristocrate is $36 here.
