A couple of weeks ago, Influenster sent me some hair products to try from the new L’Oreal Ultimate Straight collection. I had just run out of shampoo and conditioner so it was perfect timing for me! The Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight line is designed to give you super straight, sleek hair. The products are formulated with Kera-Tourmaline which relaxes hair strands and replenishes keratin for stronger, less damaged hair. These products work with heat to give you the ultimate blowout for up to 48 hours. I received all four products in the line: the shampoo, pre-conditioner, conditioner, and perfecting balm.
The Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straightening Shampoo is the first step in this system. I thought this shampoo worked really well. It didn’t have a strong scent and it seemed to keep my hair from getting oily between washings. It wasn’t as moisturizing as my usual shampoo but it didn’t dry my hair out either. The L’Oreal Ultimate Straight Shampoo is $4.99 here.
The next step in the process is the Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straight Boosting Pre-Conditioner. This is a weekly treatment that helps boost the straightening effect. You put it on for a couple of minutes after shampooing then rinse it out before using conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner worked well to straighten on their own, but this really made a difference. The Straight Boosting Pre-Conditioner is $6.99 here.
Next is the Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straightening Conditioner. This conditioner was on the thicker side but it felt very light and didn’t weigh my hair down. Like the shampoo, it wasn’t particularly moisturizing but it didn’t make my hair dry. My hair was straighter and sleeker even with just using the shampoo and conditioner. The Ultimate Straight Conditioner is $4.99 here.
The final step in the process is the Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straight Perfecting Balm. This is a styling balm that you add to damp hair before blow drying or straightening. It helps make your hair straighter, softer, and shinier. This really helps achieve the sleek, straight look and it feels light- not at all like I’m loading my hair up with product. The Straight Perfecting Balm is $6.99 here.
My hair is usually pretty straight but it does have some bend and wave to it. My layers tend to stick out where my hair hits my shoulders and I typically have a slightly messy look. Even though my hair is already straight, these products made it much straighter and really eliminated any waves. I like to let my hair air dry a little before blow drying it with my fingers, and that’s exactly what I did here. That’s right, I didn’t use a brush to dry it or use a straightener afterwards. This was my result after a sloppy blow dry. I really liked the sleek, straight look I got by using these products and it was so much easier than spending the time to actually style it.
I was surprised by how well these products worked and how much I liked the result. My hair did stay straight and smooth for the full 48 hours (and probably would have remained that way for longer but I washed it). I thought using all of these products would weigh my hair down and create a lot of buildup, but they were all very light. The L’Oreal Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight collection made a huge difference in how my hair looked. I think these would be great products for anyone trying to achieve that super sleek look. I did very little to achieve this look and I think these products would work just as well for people with wavy or curly hair, although they might have to blow dry with a brush or quickly run a straightener through their hair to get the same result. I would definitely recommend using all four of the products, they seem to work really well as a system.
