March Beauty Favorites

march_beauty_favoritesLast month my favorite beauty products included a soft eye palette and moisturizing products for both my hair and face to combat the dryness of winter. This month, the weather warmed up and all I wanted to do was play with bright colors. It’s funny how quickly my favorite products can change. While I still love the products I was using in February, March called for some different items.

march_beauty_favorites1I wear a lot of black and gray during the winter, and my makeup tends to be softer and more neutral as well (with the occasional exception of dark pink lips and purple eyeliner). However, once spring rolls around, all the colors come out to play. My focus is less on keeping my skin hydrated (turning off the heat tends to help with that) and more on figuring out how much color I can put on my face. My beauty favorites for March include something new (Nuxe’s Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm) and two something-olds (Maybelline New York’s ColorSensational Lip Color in Coral Crush and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Deviant).

nuxe_lip_balm1The Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm had been on my radar for a little while and I kept going back and forth about buying it. It’s a little pricey for a lip balm ($19) and while all the reviews claim it’s amazing, I feel like people say that about every semi-expensive lip balm out there (and I’m not always that impressed). Plus, it comes in a pot, not a tube, which I don’t like because it’s not as sanitary and definitely not good for applying on the go. Did I really want to buy a lip balm that I would only use at home? I was swayed when I received a 20% off coupon, plus a candle gift-with-purchase.

I am so glad I picked this up and I will not hesitate to buy it for full price in the future. This balm is very thick and sits on my lips for awhile instead of sinking in. It doesn’t make my lips super smooth but it is so incredibly hydrating. I put this on before bed and when I wake up I can still feel it on (in a good way, like it moisturized my lips all night long). I still use an exfoliating lip scrub with this but I really like not having to apply lip balm every hour. Definitely worth all the hype (and the price)! Plus, the glass jar feels super luxe (although I’m not a huge fan of the plastic cap). The Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm is $19 here.

maybelline_coral_crushThe next product has been a favorite of mine for awhile, but it always moves to the front of the list during spring. Maybelline’s ColorSensational Lipstick in Coral Crush is a pretty, bright pinky-coral. It’s not quite orange but not quite pink, the perfect in-between color. While I really like orange lipstick during the summer, Coral Crush is a nice way to ease into the orange color family without going all the way. It’s the perfect way to brighten my face and the formula feels nice on. I love pairing it with bright coral nails (especially Essie’s Cute as a Button). Coral Crush is $7.49 here.

urban_decay_deviant_eyelinerAnother favorite of mine during spring is bright blue eyeliner. Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Deviant is a great medium-bright blue. It’s not electric blue, but it’s not navy either. This is a color that I can wear to work just as easily as I can wear it out. The formula is amazing (it really does glide right on and stay all day) and it’s easy to draw either a thin little line or smudge it out for more of an impact. I love the look of a bright blue line on my eyes paired with coral lips, so I’ve been wearing Deviant with Coral Crush a lot this month. Deviant has been discontinued but a similar color is Abyss (it’s just a little brighter) which is $20 here.
