Sephora VIB Rouge Beauty Before Brunch

beauty_before_brunchOn Sunday, I attended a closed-door shopping event for VIB Rouges. The event, Beauty Before Brunch, was a way to kick-off Sephora’s Beauty Insider Appreciation Week, in which all Beauty Insiders get extra points for their purchases. Sephora’s VIB Rouge events can be a little hit-or-miss, depending on how high your expectations are. Sephora promises two hours of private shopping, mini makeovers, brand ambassadors, and a goodie bag filled with samples. The events vary by store though, with some attendees receiving tons of goodies and other stores being so crowded that it’s impossible to move around. I always treat their events as a way to get free breakfast and buy a product or two that catches my eye, so I’m always happy when I leave.

vib_thanks_bag1My store organizes these events really well. I took my mom with me and when we arrived we were checked off the guest list and given name tags. My store also had handouts describing which brand reps were in store and what new products they had- extremely useful for these events! They also gave us shopping bags that already contained the goodie bags when we walked through the door. I really liked how organized they were- there was no need to make a big purchase or fight with the sales associates in order to get my mom a sample bag (I’ve heard of this happening at previous events).

beauty_before_brunch1My store wasn’t too crowded so we were able to browse and talk to the brand ambassadors without any craziness. There was a table with all sorts of pastries and cookies along with coffee, orange juice, and water (honestly my favorite part of the event). I really like that Sephora held this event on a Sunday morning because it meant I was able to attend before I went to work. Plus, it was before the mall opened so it wasn’t very busy and I was able to find a good parking spot!

vib_thanks_bagOur sample bags included a canvas makeup bag and eight samples, most of which were deluxe sizes. I thought the makeup bag was cute but pretty flimsy. The foldover clutch from April’s event was much nicer. The samples were pretty decent but not too exciting. We received a mini L’Occitane hand cream (which I love), a mini Formula X polish, Benefit’s Porefessional (another love for me but I have about a million samples of this already), bareMinerals’ Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss, Korres’ Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, a sample of Boscia’s Detoxifying Black Cleanser, a vial of Chloe perfume, and a foil of the Fresh Rose Face Mask. I liked the range of samples included but I’ve received a lot of these before. It would have been nice to try some different products.

formula_x_sheer_strengthI’ve gotten a lot of Formula X polishes in Sephora promos and I’m always impressed by how much I like the formula. This time, I received one of their Sheer Strength formulas in Wondrous, a sheer pink porcelain shade. The Sheer Strength line strengthens, nourishes, and protects nails while imparting a sheer wash of color. I’m excited to try this formula and I love the sheer pink color I got.

bareminerals_marvelous_moxie_maverickThe bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss is in the color Maverick. It seems like anytime bareMinerals offers a freebie they use this color, so it’s not the first time I’ve received it.

bareminerals_marvelous_moxie_maverick1Maverick is described as a rosewood shimmer. It’s a brownish rose color with silver glitter in it. This would probably be a good neutral shade for a lot of people but it’s just too brown for me. I wish a different color was included in my sample bag.

bareminerals_marvelous_moxie_maverick2The Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss is a plumping gloss, so it does have that minty tingly feeling to it. It’s slightly sticky but not too bad. This is also supposed to hydrate and smooth lips but I didn’t really notice those effects.

stila_lush_lips_water_plumping_primerI didn’t have too many things I was looking for when we went shopping but I did pick up this Stila Lush Lips Water Plumping Primer. I wear a lot of lip colors and wanted something to help them last longer. Lip liners take too much time to apply in the morning and they dry my lips out so I wanted to try something else. This primer goes on like a lipgloss and doesn’t seem to make my lips dry. I don’t really notice a plumping effect but so far it does seem to help with the longevity of my lipsticks.

sephora_birthday_giftWe were both also able to pick up our birthday gifts at the event. I really like Sephora’s birthday gifts and I was really excited about this year’s. This year’s gift included two mini NARS Lip Pencils. The Rouge gift also included a mini black eyeliner but I traded gifts with my mom so she could have it (I don’t wear much black eyeliner).

sephora_birthday_gift1I love NARS Lip Pencils and I was so happy to receive two shades I hadn’t tried before. I got Cruella, one of their Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, and Rikugien, a Satin Lip Pencil. I think both colors are pretty universally flattering and I love the different finishes. I love the pencil formula and how easy it is to apply these.

sephora_birthday_gift2Cruella is a scarlet red with a matte finish and Rikugien is a rose pink with a satin finish. I like the Matte Lip Pencils because they have a great matte finish but aren’t drying and they are long-wearing. The Satin Lip Pencils have a shiny but not glossy look and need to be reapplied more often, but they are more moisturizing.

nars_cruella1Cruella is a great matte red that isn’t too dark or too bright. Most reds are too dark and harsh for me but this isn’t bad. It’s darker and less pink than Dragon Girl, which I still prefer to this. Even though it’s a matte finish, Cruella glides on easily and doesn’t feel drying.

nars_rikugienRikugien is a lovely natural pink with just a hint of shine. This is a true MLBB on me, it matches my lip color well and is just slightly darker. I love how the satin finish feels but it doesn’t last as long as Cruella. I am really happy with this shade and I can see myself going through the sample quickly!

biweekI had a pretty good time at Beauty Before Brunch and my mom was impressed with the event (she has already asked me to take her to the next one). We got a lot of free goodies and the breakfast was nice too. I’m most happy with the birthday gift but I will use everything I got. Sephora is running their points special all week, until August 9th. Beauty Insiders earn double points, VIBs earn triple points, and VIB Rouges earn quadruple points on all purchases. A sample bag similar to what I received at the event (the samples will vary a little bit) should be available online starting August 7th for VIBs and VIB Rouges. Just use the promo code VIBTHANKS with orders of $35 or more.
