SiJCP Customized Skincare Set

skinset1Sephora has been releasing a lot of sampler kits under their Sephora Favorites line. They are pretty good values if you like a few of the items or want to try different products out. I’ve bought a few of the sets over the years (including their Give Me Some Lip set that I reviewed here) but one of my favorites is their custom skincare sampler. Every January, Sephora has a promo where you receive double Beauty Insider points on skincare purchases and around the same time, they release a SiJCP Customized Skincare Set. The set is exclusive to Sephora inside JC Penney, and it is an awesome deal. For only $29, you get to pick five deluxe skincare samples (and for the most part they are high-value samples). I love this promo because it’s a great way to try different skincare products or stock up on your favorites, and you can save quite a bit of money.

skinset2This year, the options are:

Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream .23 oz
Boscia Mini Konjac Cleansing Sponge
Clarisonic Deep Pore Daily Cleanser 1 oz
Dr. Jart+ All That Lift and Firm Mask (Single Use Mask)
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream 1 oz
GlamGlow PowerMud Dual Cleanse Treatment .5 oz
GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment .5 oz
Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 .16 oz
Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment .25 oz
Murad Transforming Powder/ Dual-Action Cleanser and Exfoliator .043 oz
Ole Henricksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster .5 oz
Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM .4 oz
Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser 2 oz
Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask (2 sheets)

All of the choices are great products from good brands, so it was hard for me to narrow it down to five.

skinset3My skin gets really dry in the winter, so I had been planning to pick up a small jar of GlamGlow’s ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment. When I saw the same size in this set, I decided to stock up and grabbed three (my SiJCP let me choose multiples, but some stores only let you pick one of each item). I also decided to try GlamGlow’s PowerMud Dual Cleanse Treatment. I’ve been really happy with the GlamGlow products I’ve tried, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong with the PowerMud. I was a little undecided when it came to my fifth item. I was interested in the Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge or the ExfoliKate, but they were both on the smaller side. I stocked up on the Ole Henricksen Truth Serum with this set last year, so I didn’t need any more. At the salesgirl’s suggestion, I decided to try the Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM (one of the better values in the kit).

skinset7I was really happy to see the GlamGlow ThirstyMud as a choice for this set. I had been wanting to purchase the smaller .5 oz jar for $19, but I figured for $10 more I could grab this kit and get a lot more for my money. ThirstyMud is a treatment that can be used as a wash-off mask or as a deep moisturizer while you sleep. I prefer to use it overnight because it really hydrates my skin that way. And it smells amazing! This has a honey scent to it. ThirstyMud is perfect for winter when my skin dries out. The size in this set is also .5 oz, but I like that it comes in a tube instead of a jar so it won’t dry out. I picked up three of these for a total value of $57.

skinset8GlamGlow’s PowerMud Dual Cleanse Treatment is another option for this set. I’ve really liked the GlamGlow products I’ve tried, so I wanted to check this out. This is a weekly or twice-weekly deep cleanser. It starts off as a mud that you put on as a mask. As you rinse it off, it turns into an oil cleanser. I haven’t had the best of luck with oil cleansers on my skin, but I’m anxious to try this mask/ cleanser hybrid. PowerMud is currently only available in a large jar, but based on the prices of GlamGlow’s other products, this .5 oz tube would be worth $19.

skinset6I wasn’t quite sure what item I should choose for my final product. The salesgirl suggested I try Peter Thomas Roth’s Retinol Fusion PM because it has a pretty good value. It is a retinol serum that you use at night to improve skintone and texture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. I like the idea of this product and can’t wait to try it. Based on the price of the full-sized product, this .4 oz one is worth $26.

skinset4The set also includes a black makeup bag. Unlike most promo bags, this one is a big enough size to be useful and is also sturdy enough to be used everyday. I prefer the look of last year’s bag (a black and white bag), but this one has a better shape.

skinset5I am really happy with my SiJCP Customized Skincare Set and am considering grabbing a second one. For only $29, I got five deluxe samples worth $102, plus a nice makeup bag. This set is a great way to try new products or stock up on some favorites. I love that SiJCP releases these bags every year and I wish they did more (I also wish they were available at regular Sephoras).

Have you bought any skincare items for 2x Sephora points?
