Growing up, I was always torn between double fudge brownie and cookie dough ice cream. I loved both equally, how was I ever supposed to choose which one I wanted? The day I discovered Half Baked ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s literally changed my life. It was like the storm clouds parted and sunshine started streaming in. Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration but finding an ice cream that combined my two favorites into one was definitely life-changing. I had that same reaction when I discovered slutty brownies. A layer of cookie dough topped with a layer of brownie and an Oreo sandwiched in between? Sure, the name is kind of dumb (I think The Most Amazing Brownies You’ll Ever Eat sounds a little better) but I couldn’t wait to try them.
There are a bunch of different ways to make slutty brownies but I went with the super easy way: store-bought cookie dough and brownie mix from a box. I did mix it up a little by using some peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough and adding a little hot fudge to the equation.
Step one is to line a baking pan with parchment paper. Then you cover the bottom with a layer of cookie dough, squishing it in the pan to create a nice even layer with no empty spots. I made half my layer out of chocolate chip cookie dough and the other half from peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough (because chocolate and peanut butter are so perfect together).
Then you top the cookie dough with a layer of Oreos. You can leave a little space between them like I did or break them into pieces and cover all of the cookie dough. I expected the Oreos to stay crunchy but the layers of dough and brownie batter somehow softened them during cooking.
Because you might as well go all out when making chocolate-chip-cookie-Oreo-brownies, I added dollops of hot fudge to the spaces between Oreos. I mean, is this really the time to worry about extra calories?
Follow the baking instructions for the brownies but keep in mind that you might have to adjust the time. My brownies said to bake them at 350° for about 20 minutes. I ended up baking these for close to double that amount of time and they were perfectly cooked. Just watch these as they are baking, you want them to be cooked but you don’t want to over-bake them!
The Oreos add another nice flavor and the hot fudge dollops were super good. It will be fun to try different versions of these, I bet ones with peanut butter cups or caramel dollops would be really tasty!
I cannot explain just how good these were. Since they are really rich, a little goes a long way but it was nearly impossible to stop eating these! Both the regular chocolate chip and the peanut butter ones were perfect. Definitely serve these warm for a truly delicious treat!
