Earlier this week G and I took a mini trip to Santa Barbara. Our flight left super early in the morning and we spent the day checking out the pier and walking down State Street. Obviously I wanted to look cute for our trip but I really wanted to be comfortable for the flight and our day of walking. Luckily, New Chic recently sent me some updated staples that fit the bill perfectly.
I haven’t been buying too many new beauty products so far this year but I’ve been having a lot of fun rediscovering products I already own. My March beauty favorites included a new concealer that has gotten quite a bit of use, an old favorite nail polish shade, and a lip primer that I finally figured out how to use well. I’ve been wearing a lot of soft pink and purple shades of makeup but I’ve been trying different combinations with a few different palettes so none of them have really stood out so far. I’ve also been wearing a lot of pink blushes and lip colors and tring some new skincare products. But when it came down to it, these three products really stood out in March. My 2016 March beauty favorites were the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla, Essie’s Lovie Dovie Nail Polish, and the Stila Lush Lips Water Plumping Primer.
Black is a staple in my wardrobe, which becomes super obvious as soon as the weather gets cooler. I think it’s really easy to throw things together if most of my clothes are in various shades of black and gray, then I can wear them all together or add a pop of color with a bright sweater or shoes. It makes getting dressed really easy in the morning. I also happen to really love all black outfits, they somehow look way cooler than if I were to wear the same pieces in different colors. I think the key is to have a lot of basic pieces that have some kind of interesting detail to keep them from being too boring.
Peplums are one of those things that I either love or hate. I usually love them on other people or on the hanger but they often hit me at weird spots. When I saw this leather peplum top with its scalloped hem and cutouts I decided to take my chances. Luckily, it worked out and I ended up with a fun top for cooler weather. I really like peplums when they’re paired with either pencil skirts for a more streamlined look or fuller skirts that really play up the volume of the peplum. When I wore this top recently, I opted for the latter with a sweater underneath to keep me warm.
My November beauty favorites signify a pretty significant change to my routine from previous months. Now that the weather is finally getting cooler, my beauty routine has changed quite a bit. Unlike the warmer months where I was all about playing around with new makeup shades, right now I’m focusing on keeping my look simple. I’m all about berry shades for makeup and nails and I’ve been craving scents that smell warmer and a little spicy. I’ve also been using everything I can to combat hair static caused by heaters and sweaters. My November beauty favorites were Essie’s Recessionista, Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, and Josie Maran’s Argan Oil.
When it comes to nail polish, I’m not really partial to any one brand, although out of my handful of favorites, I always seen to gravitate toward a single theme within each brand. For example, I love Essie’s opaque pastels and Julep’s full-coverage glitters. My OPI’s tend to be darker cremes or glitter topcoats and when it comes to Deborah Lippmann, the more sparkle, the better. Sometimes I know exactly which polish I want to use for a mani and other times I just grab a handful and pick one at random. For this mani, I wanted a couple of colors I hadn’t used in awhile. I ended up choosing Essie Lilacism and Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow.
