Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Essentials Set

Tarte Magical MomentsEvery year Sephora releases $10 specials for Black Friday and every year I find several I have to buy. This year, one of my must-haves was the Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Essentials Set. The set included three different deluxe samples: a LipSurgence lip gloss in Magic, an Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Magic, and a Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara. A deluxe size of the mascara alone usually costs $10, so this was a great deal.

I like Tarte’s deluxe sizes because they are actually usable. The lip gloss has plenty of product, the blush contains more than I will ever need (I have a couple other deluxe size blushes from Tarte and I have yet to make a dent in them), and the mascara also lasts for awhile. This trio of samples came wrapped in cute Tarte tissue paper in a paper box. It was really nice packaging and made me feel like I was opening a present.

I don’t wear much lip gloss and I have never been impressed by Tarte’s LipSurgence lip gloss. It is pretty thick and sticky and it tends to settle into my lip lines. It’s a shame because their regular LipSurgences are so nice. Magic is a shade exclusive to this set. It’s a really pretty pastel peachy-pink color with a little shimmer.

This lip gloss smells really good (kind of vanilla-y) and it is such a pretty color that I was actually willing to try it out even though I don’t like Tarte’s LipSurgence lip gloss formula.

Unfortunately, the color didn’t translate very well to the lips. It looked very pale on and washed me out a lot. This is a color that might work if you are doing a dark, smoky eye and want a really pale lip to go with it, but otherwise skip it. I wasn’t too bothered by not liking this lip gloss. I bought the set knowing I would probably only use the blush and mascara and it was still a good deal to me.

I’m a big blush person and I really like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-hour blushes. They are super pigmented so a little goes a long way. They also last all day. These blushes aren’t at all powdery. They are on the harder side, but it’s still very easy to pick up product. The Amazonian Clay blush in this set is also in the exclusive shade Magic. Unlike the lip gloss, which leans pink, the blush is more on the peach side.

I am really happy with this blush shade. It’s a very natural looking pinky-peach. This is a shade that can be used for a very light, natural wash of color or built up for a slightly more dramatic look. The other two Tarte blushes I own are Dollhouse (a baby pink) and Exposed (a nude color), so Magic is a nice addition to my collection.

The third product in the set is Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara. This is my HG mascara and my favorite item in the Tarte Magical Moments Set. I have hooded eyes so my lashes tend to disappear without mascara. I love this product because it works in four different ways. It is a lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning mascara. This adds a lot of volume and length without giving me spider lashes and causing my lashes to clump together. The formula is soft and fluttery instead of hard and brittle. It gives me a more natural big eyelash look. I also love that the brush is a normal size. So many mascara brushes are so big now that they are hard to use (ie Smashbox Full Exposure, Benefit BADgal). This brush is small enough to allow me to get to the root of my lashes without the fear of losing an eye in the process.

I am really happy with this set. For $10, it’s an awesome deal, even though I don’t like the lip gloss. I wish Stacie was a blush person so I could give her this set (she is all bronzer, all the time). The Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Essentials Set is currently sold out on Sephora’s website, but you might still be able to find it in store.

What was your best Black Friday score? Did you pick up the Tarte Magical Moments Set?
